Rainbow Adventures is the leader when it comes to lodge quality
Alaska float fishing expeditions. Perhaps your interest is a trip to
Alaska's Bristol Bay region to tangle with some of the largest and
most plentiful Trophy Rainbow Trout in the world, or your interest
might be in any of the five species of Pacific Salmon, Arctic Char,
Sheefish, Pike or other species. Whatever you and your group desire,
we offer Alaska fishing trips at the right time and on the right
rivers to fit your expectations. The best way to decide when and
where to go, is to call us and let our many years of Alaska
experience help guide you to the trip of your dreams. For the Nature
enthusiast and photographer, we also now offer a limited number of
guided Alaska brown bear and wildlife viewing float trips during
August. There are also fishing trips in or near South Central Alaska
not far from Anchorage, Alaska's largest city.
Your adventure with us could be for just half a day to over two
weeks in length depending on where and what you and your group are
looking to do as you visit Alaska. Most remote Alaska fishing trips
are a week in length, shorter or longer trips are based on river of
choice, and availability in our ever evolving Alaska trip schedule.
Depending on your river of choice your trip may be one of our Deluxe
or Intimate style Alaska trips. The intimate rivers program is where
we carry less gear and amenities in order to access smaller streams
while our deluxe odysseys, usually are reserved for the Togiak and
Alagnak river trips where we bring everything including the on river
version of the kitchen sink.
Either way an Alaska Rainbow Adventures float fishing or wildlife ~ bear viewing trip will satisfy your quest for the ultimate Alaska fishing bear viewing experience. For those of you with less time available, we offer shorter fishing trips in areas North and South of Anchorage with experienced 'local' Alaska fishing guides and can help book day fly out trips for bear viewing and Alaska fishing, Just call

Mother Nature delivered one of those rare Alaskan summers to the
Bristol Bay region in 2009. Warmer temperatures and more days with
blue skies then you might expect to find in an area known for
unpredictable weather. Now we really are not complaining about the
weather it was "fantastic!" after all especially after the rain and
high water we had in the fall of 08, but it also bought forth a few
twists that had to be dealt with One such twist was low water levels
where some rivers were so deficient that portions of trips had to be
switched in whole or part to other waters for the well being of our
clients that
would allow safe passage of our rafts as
well as to protect expensive equipment from damage. The weather
also showed something folks often forget about river trips even in
Alaska, the sun can be intense and therefore sun block on the river
is essential (Sunblock has been on our packing list since the early
days, but is often left out, sun block in Alaska you say?). That
said, on waters where the sockeye salmon were spawning the rainbow
fishing was described as "epic" such was the description used by our
clients that made it to Moraine Creek in 2009. On the Alagnak the
salmon runs were down a bit from the highs of the past several years
and this was evident in the low numbers of dead salmon seen along
the banks as well as locations in river where they normally
collect. However as the silvers returned in strength late in the
season and when we were able to locate pockets of spawning chums the
rainbow fishing was substantially better. The Togiak river was
spectacular as ever - Just getting there is said to be worth the
price of admission alone and we highly recommend a trip with us to
this beautiful western Alaska river where a few rainbows over 30"
were bought to hand in 2009, one tapped out at 34"Paul:
It was a trip of a life time. The weather was glorious. The only rain was the day we flew to the lake and then the sun shone on us and the mountains for the nest 5 days. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants great fishing and a mountainous landscape for a back drop. I caught my trophy rainbow-28 inches and we caught the most beautiful dolly varden I had ever seen; 2-4 lbs.
The food was outstanding-steaks, shrimp and crab, eggs, bacon and french toast just to name a few. But the part of the trip that I enjoyed he most was spending time getting to know our hard working guide, cook, bear authority, boat paddler and all around "best new friend" Mike Bianchi. It was so refreshing to spend 6 days fishing with someone who you could tell, from the very beginning, loved doing what he was doing and honestly enjoyed being with us and sharing the beauty of Alaska.
Mike worked his butt off. He was always happy to show me the ropes; and was a get picture taker and fish netter. We never ran into any other group, except for 3 other fishermen flown in for 4 hours of fishing upstream of our position. We has the Togiak to ourselves. Paul, you and Mike run a first class operation. I am 59 and no spring chicken, and Mike always was there to make sure I was having a great time.
I look forward to another "adventure" with you.

Float trip-Togiak River
Sept.2-8, 2009
Scheduled odysseys are offered on the Alagnak, and Togiak rivers.
All other waters such as Moraine and American creeks and the,
Chilikadrotna, Talachulitna and Koktuli Rivers are available as
custom trips. Most are usually a week long in duration, starting mid
week (Wednesdays) but often we can accommodate those groups wishing
to do longer or shorter trips on a custom basis. We are also
offering half, full and two day trips on waters north of Anchorage
for salmon and trout in association with some of our favorite local
Alaskan guides. By offering trips of varying length on different
waters we are able to offer you a wide variety of angling
experiences to choose from, if your interest is fly-fishing for
trophy rainbow trout, casting to explosive pacific salmon fresh from
the sea, or battling arctic char on a stunningly scenic river, we
have the knowledge and experience to make your Alaskan dreams come
true. Let us know what you desire and we will work hard to put you
on the type of expedition that most closely matches your
expectations.
Over
the last 27 years I've spent in excess of 180 days fly fishing with
various outfitters throughout the world. I've taken four trips
(2005-2009) with Paul Hansen's Alaska Rainbow Adventures to the
Alagnak(twice) and Moraine Creek and have another trip scheduled in
2010. Each trip always exceeded my expectations for catching fish,
scenery and outfitter service. Paul is definitely at the top of my
list for professionalism and fishing/river knowledge. I might also
add his guides mimic his professionalism. When you're on a trip with
Paul and his guides you'll feel like family. Dennis Callaway - Island Park, Idaho
Why a float trip with us?
Alaska
Rainbow Adventures is the leader when it comes to lodge quality

might be in any of the five species of Pacific Salmon, Arctic Char,

enthusiast and photographer, we also now offer a limited number of
guided Alaska brown bear and wildlife viewing float trips during
August. There are also fishing trips in or near South Central Alaska
not far from Anchorage, Alaska's largest city. Well for one the
fishing is better on a Alaska Rainbow Adventures wilderness float
trip because we are on the rivers at the peak of the salmon runs or
during times when availability is highest for native species like
the rainbow trout for which our trips are famous. Of course we also
offer trips targeting other species such as dolly Varden/arctic
char, Sheefish, pike and grayling. Whatever your reason to visit
Alaska our staff of Alaskan guides will bring to the river that
unique local knowledge of fishing Alaska you can only get as a
resident of the 49th state.
You do not even have to go back to the lodge at 5 O’clock because
you are already there, camped right on the river! You couldn't be
any closer to the fishing as we camp at the best available fishing
holes and of course you are more then welcome to fish as much as you
like and many of our guests join us for this reason alone! We can
put you on the best fishing holes, one after another all day long as
you to present your hook to fish in the most effective way from one
of our custom inflatable boats or while wading
of
water on our trips much of it where jet boats and airplanes simply
can not go. Our guides will lead you through about six to ten miles
of river a day, just the right balance of wade fishing from the bank
as we stop at hole after hole and of drift fishing from the boats.
Our float trips also give you more opportunities for relaxing and
seeing wildlife in their natural surroundings without being run off
by the sound of an approaching outboard engine. The "experience"
shared by a group of people on an adventure through remote, breath
taking wilderness is something that you will remember forever. Many
of our guests return year after year renewing friendships formed on
the river with their guides and other guests they meet on Alaska
Rainbow Adventures float trips.
Your wake-up call every morning is about 7:30 am with hot coffee or
favorite beverage brewing and breakfast soon follows. After we eat,
you will have time to go back to your tent to pack up your personal
gear, fold up your, cot, sleeping pad and tent and take your gear
down to the rafts unless it is a no travel day then you just go
fishing! The rafts are then loaded and we start floating around 9:30
am. We spend the morning float/fishing until lunchtime which we have
streamside. After lunch, we continue float/fishing to our evening
campsite arriving about 5:30 pm sometimes a bit later depending on
who we had to drag out of that last hot run on the river. After the
rafts have been unloaded, we all help set up camp which generally
takes about 30 minutes. Your next decision is whether to sit back
and just relax or continue fishing the camp waters. Supper is
usually ready about 7:30 pm. Afterwards you can wade fish the camp
waters until you are satisfied
As
a guide, lodge owner, and booking agent, it's very difficult for me
to give Kudos. I have seen the best. I know good fishing, and
hunting operations when I see them. Your guides are world-class
guides, and most importantly people. The gear is the finest, and
most reliable money can buy. The food is excellent, as well. I'll
put your float operation up against any in Alaska. Excellent Job!!
Oh and Kudos! Justin Tackett

on
the deluxe river trips are in spacious, high quality tents. Each of
these tents is used to house two anglers. This provides you ample
space for your gear, as well as a comfortable retreat should the
weather become inclement. These tents make getting ready in the
morning a breeze, allowing you to stand comfortably while gearing up
and putting on waders. We also provide cots and sleeping pads, a
welcome luxury after a day of fishing. Each campsite will have a
designated area away from camp, with the private toilet unit that is
required under the auspices of our federal permit. We now even offer
unlimited hot showers while on the river for that fresh have not
been fishing feeling. Please note that our Intimate rivers trips may
offer a few less of these deluxe comforts, depending on what we can
safely carry in aircraft and on the rafts. Shown is one of our group
dining tents.
Small
group size is an important part of our philosophy at Alaska Rainbow
Adventures. By limiting our trips to no more then six anglers*, we
are able to provide a personal, high quality wilderness experience.
We usually operate with a three to one guest / guide ratio and
operating two rafts per trip, occasionally the ratio ends up being
less but never more. If you are looking for an outstanding adventure
away from the crowds offering unrestricted fishing time, a
wilderness float with A.R.A. is exactly what you want. *Please note
that arrangements for larger groups can be made for trips on some
rivers if your group is larger then six persons, please call for
details. For groups of less then 6 persons wishing to remain private
there is a 30% of trip price additional fee, otherwise we reserve
the right to fill any trip with up to six guests unless you have
paid for private status. Meals are served home style and offer generous portions of traditional entrees prepared with choice cuts of meat and fresh fish. These come with all the trimmings and dessert. At midday, a hearty lunch is prepared on the bank, and should you need an extra bit of energy to help you land that big one, snacks of fresh fruit and cookies are available. You are invited to make menu suggestions for your trip and we will try to accommodate them whenever possible. We recommend you drink only filtered water, which we will provide throughout the trip.
On our deluxe trips state of the art 18' catarafts or 14' self bailing rafts from the largest producer of whitewater craft in America are utilized to get you safely down the river in comfort. Each raft is equipped with a custom rowing frame, floor, and for angler comfort, padded high back seats. For our intimate rivers program we may utilize smaller catarafts or rafts, however all of these craft provide a safe, comfortable platform for fishing and relaxing while drifting downstream in search of what action awaits around the next bend. For fishing on our "local waters", we use boats set up specifically for these shorter 1/2 to 2 day trips.

Moraine Creek Flowing 15 miles from Spectacle Lake to
Kukaklek Lake and located in Katmai National Preserve, Moraine Creek is
perhaps the premier trophy rainbow trout fishery in Alaska for "really
big" rainbows. We are talking about fish in the eight to twelve plus
pound class.
Alagnak River Located 290 miles southwest of Anchorage,
AK, the Alagnak River traverses the beautiful Alaska Peninsula, flowing
about seventy miles from it's twin sources of Kukaklek & Nonvianuk Lakes
into the Kvichak River then Bristol Bay. The Alagnak's extraordinary
rainbow trout, char, grayling, and abundant salmon have helped it become
a world class fishing destination. This is one of our Top Lodge Quality
Float Trips and an excellent value!
Togiak River The Togiak River flows 60 miles from
Togiak lake to Togiak Bay and along it's entire length you will find it
filled with exceptional fishing, for pacific salmon, resident rainbow
trout, arctic char and grayling all while you are surrounded by
breathtaking scenery. Come experience Alaska's Togiak River and the
camaraderie of a wilderness Alaska fishing float trip that is second to
none.
Koktuli River The Koktuli River is one of the
headwaters of the Nushagak River drainage. From its humble beginnings in
the tundra covered foothills to the cottonwood and spruce forested
lowlands where it joins the Mulchatna River, the Koktuli winds for some
50 miles as it transforms from a narrow, shallow high country "crick" to
a wider, deeper true Alaskan River.
Stuyahok River The Stu as it is affectionately called
is also in the upper Nushagak River drainage, similar in may respects to
the Koktuli to the East, the Stuyahok drains the highlands west of
Iliamna lake and provides important spawning habitat for Chinook,
Sockeye, and Coho salmon. Stuyahok River Float Trip. The Stuyahok River is
relatively short in length but our week long float trip allows you more
then ample opportunity to wade these archetypal trout waters and fish
for resident species which includes a dense population of 15 to 21 inch
Rainbow Trout with specimens to 24", innumerable Arctic Grayling, and
Dolly Varden.
Packing For AlaskaPacking for Alaska can be a challenge, with travel in small aircraft an important part of many trips to remote areas of the state as well as the weather what and how much to pack becomes a concern. Here you will find some suggestions of items to bring on your Alaskan adventure.
Clothing ~ with temperatures that average from the 30's to 50's at night and 40 to 70 during the day, a layered approach to clothing works best in Alaska. If you will be fishing in neoprene waders your pants should be lightweight warm synthetic material that wicks moisture away from the skin. Warm synthetic pants should be worn under lightweight waders. Most guests wear chamois or wool shirts over thermal underwear with a sweater or jacket over that if necessary. Remember you can always remove layers should you get too warm. While many guests seem able to get by wearing jeans around camp we strongly recommend that at least one pair of pants made from some synthetic material be packed for your trip. Thermal underwear: Two pairs of good quality poly pro or capeline underwear are recommended as these wick moisture from the skin and are warm even when damp. Both pairs should be heavy expedition weight for trips in late August and September. Besides your waders, bring some type of waterproof shoe such as knee boots or the LL Bean Maine hunting shoe to wear around camp. Once again, please leave the cotton jeans and shirts at home or save them for use asr travel clothing. Invest in some windproof fleece pants and a jacket they are worth the extra cost and can prevent you from becoming cold.
Dry Bag ~ Invest in one or two good quality dry bags to hold your clothing and sleeping bag for your trip. We can no longer provide these for you.
Rain Gear ~ Quality strong sturdy raingear jackets and pants are essential on any trip to Alaska. A heavy rubberized canvas top and chest waders offer the driest combo of all.
Waders ~ Chest waders with wading shoes that have felt soles are recommended. The breathable waders with fleece or thermal underwear underneath are the most popular choice of most anglers. Please no stream cleats or studs as they damage our boats and are not necessary.
Sleeping Bag ~ A quality sleeping bag rated down to at least 20 degrees is recommended for most trips, a bag rated to 5 degrees or a bag liner might be a good idea for any September trips. The insulation should be a synthetic that dries rapidly should the bag get wet.
Suggested items to bring
Stuff Sacks for your sleeping bag and synthetic clothing
Jacket - Windproof if best(Light to medium weight, not to bulky)
Thermal socks
2 - 3 pair wool socks
Baseball cap
Wool or synthetic stocking cap
Heavy wool sweater
Chamois or wool shirts
Wool neoprene gloves
Extra set of clothing
Waterproof camp boots
Head net
Towel & washcloth
Toiletries
Prescription medications
Camera, lots of film and extra batteries
Small flashlight
Knife
Pliers
Hook file
Insect repellant (100 % Deet)
Scissors or clippers
Rod Case - Rods should be in a rod tube
"Polarized" Sunglasses (a must)
Prescription glasses
Corkies or other eyeglass retainers
snacks (we provide 3 meals a day and some snacks - You may want to bring your own favorites)
Water bottle - Nalgine or similar (these are important)
Alcohol & Other beverages - bring 3 1/2 times what you think you will need. After 20+ years of doing trips like this, this amount just seems to be the quantity that actually works out for most people. Note you may incur an additional charge to transport your beverages to the river if you exceed weight limits.
Do not quit smoking on your trip!
Please try to keep your gear to 45 pounds or less.
Pack in waterproof dry bags. made specifically for river trips. Two small bags are better then one large bag.
Remember leave the cotton clothing at home or at the air taxi during your trip!

Another Client Testimonial
My trip with Paul Hansen and the Alaska Rainbow Adventures staff was absolutely the finest fishing adventure I’ve had to date. Fishing the Alagnak was just unbelievable, the sockeye salmon were plentiful, and the scenery and peaceful surroundings were just phenomenal. The guides were extremely helpful, the equipment was reliable, and the whole operation was first rate. Definitely an experience I would love to repeat. Gary Eugene Tonkery
